Surkhet (Campus) Education

Surkhet (Education) Campus was established in July 16, 1991 with the objective of producing trained manpower in education sector for the Government of Nepal in Far and Mid-West region. Initially it was set up in Nepalgunj because of geographical hardship and lack of transportation. Later on July 8, 1995 it was shifted to Surkhet. Since then the campus has been running in Surkhet by proliferating many fold in terms of its size and programs. In the beginning, in addition to the Certificate Level Program, (I.Ed,) the campus was running B Level training program for girls students to meet the school teacher requirement of the government with the support of NORAD and Ministry of Education. These courses were non credit courses not suitable for the University programs and were phased out gradually. Tribhuwan University

Tribhuvan University is the first, pioneer, largest and eldest university of Nepal which provides higher education to the Nepali students. It was founded as the national institution for higher education in 1959. The university has a national wide network of constituent and affiliated campuses /colleges that provide higher education in different disciplines and subjects and produce high level man power for the over all development of the country. It derives its name from the late King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah Dev.

ODL Program in M.ed

Open and Distance Education Centre (ODEC, TU) established in 2015, is a constituent independent academic organization of Tribhuvan University. The aim of ODEC is to provide access to quality higher education to mass people in Nepal through open and distance learning mode. It provides opportunity for gaining higher education in all subjects offered by Tribhuvan University in open and distance learning mode of education. Adults who are interested and compelled to upgrade academic qualification without quitting jobs/profession and are unable due to different reasons to come to conventional programme for higher education are the target group of this programme. It can also work as outreach program to address the learning needs of the potential students. Moreover, ODEC will provide technical and pedagogical support to integrate e-learning components in conventional programmes of TU to make a hybridized system to increase learning opportunity to higher education.

M.ed Program

Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a two year, four semester course of Tribhuvan University conducted by Faculty of Education. In other campuses within and outside valley except central campus M.Ed. program is managed in a yearly system carrying out exam at the end of each academic year. In order to make teaching and learning practice easier the course content is divided into core courses, specialization, elective, teaching practice and thesis. Students have to study 66 credit hours in total where 18 credit hours are allocated for first three semester and 12 credit hours are allocated for fourth semester. However, when it comes to yearly examination system, 1000(500+500) marks are allocated for studying in the time duration of two years. The course is designed to provide the students with the understanding and expertise mandatory for developing them as professionally capable teachers and trainers. The course also aims to produce teachers having talent, zeal and capacity to bring positive change in the field of education

B.ed Program

Accordingly, students of four-year BEd. programme will have to study one subject area as specialization major and the next as specialization minor area selecting from among Nepali Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education (physical science), Health and Physical Education, Population Education, History Education, Geography Education, Economics Education, and Political Science Education. Students may also study one of the courses from among Science Education (Biological Science), Health Education, Physical Education, vocational education, Primary Education, Early Childhood Development Education, Non-formal Education and Education Management as specialization minor. Four-year B.Ed. with annual examination system is a professional as well as academic programme designed for preparing competent teachers who can teach two subjects at secondary level.
